The Jacob Schlesinger Lustig Fund for the Homeless is a project our family has been working on since the passing of Jacob, our son and brother in October 2020.

The purpose of the Jacob Schlesinger Lustig Fund for the Homeless is to provide funding to organizations serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the greater Washington, DC area. This fund was established in memory of our son and brother, Jacob, who was concerned with homeless rights and transformative change to improve living conditions for the homeless community.

Into nature and compassionate toward all living creatures, Jacob lived a clean and natural lifestyle - he did not consume animal products, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, nor did he engage in any activity that endangered fauna or the environment, regularly picking up litter on his many hikes.

Jacob cared deeply about the plight of the homeless, and had been on a spiritual journey, working his way across the country to San Francisco, searching for what gives meaning and purpose to life.  Sympathetic to the struggles of those less fortunate, he met and experienced life as it was lived by society’s marginalized individuals.

Our Jacob passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in his sleep, at age 26, and after a complete, eight-month autopsy in which every test came back negative, it was determined that his death was due to natural causes.
